Real Physical Exercise
Get those jitters out with movement so the children's minds are ready to engage. Building a foundation of daily exercise strengthens the body, sharpen the mind, and establish healthy habits. Situationally, we help them engage in breathing exercises to teach children how to regulate emotions and response to stress.
Socratic Discussions
Speech, logic, and debate cultivates the ability to critically think and engage in civil discourse. We have structured questions designed to stimulate interest in science, history, moral codes, civil engagement, survival skills, and business. If there's been topics on the mind of our young leaders, this also helps drive their coach's daily question for the children to engage in meaningful discussions.
Mastery of Academics
Our young leaders focus on mastery of the foundations of reading, writing, and math. If a child is advanced in one area, he or she moves forward to ensure growth in that area, while working at a slower pace for subjects that haven't been mastered. Additional subjects are introduced through the project-based learning. The main foundations also incorporate other areas of interest.
Financial Literacy and Nutrition
The children make their own meals and discuss healthy eating habits, nutritional content, what's in their food, how it's sourced and so much more. Projects include investigating ingredients, nutrients, homesteading, and kitchen safety.
Hands-On Passion Projects
Each child chooses projects of subjects that matter to them. Whether it's robotics, coding, chemistry, sports, baking, arts, music, business, history, survival skills, boating, or so much more, they remember what they learn because it's important to them. Through research, writing and presenting what they are working on, they naturally perfect their understanding and mastery while doing what they love.
Hands-On Group Projects
Learn to work together with 4-5 week long projects where they will have hands-on topics that exposes them to new subjects. Our group projects engage in gardening, wood working, building, outdoor nature activities, story-telling, machinery, world history, American history, other cultures, and more. Older students solidify their knowledge and leadership skills while helping younger students. Each child has a part to play in creating and solving problems!
Class Economy
We value personal responsibility and caring for the resources we've been provided. Every child partakes in a class economy where they earn play "money" that can be used to buy assets. Money is earned from serving on committees, showing extreme leadership, sweeping or mopping the floors, cleaning up after ourselves, and overall caring for our space. Jobs are rotated out and children have the opportunity to earn more by contributing more or owning revenue producing assets. It's a great way to have pride in their work, learn budgeting, and investing!
